Septic Inspections

Township Septic Inspections

If you need to have your septic system inspected for your township, contact Dillsburg Excavating & Septic today. Most of the time, townships don’t have fees to turn in papers.

We don’t charge fees either, as your township covers the inspection. We pump septic tanks and complete your township’s required paperwork. No fee for completing and mailing your papers to the township unless the township charges. We are happy to work directly with the township and the SEO (sewage enforcement officer). Please see your individual township for septic inspection requirements.

Real Estate Septic Inspections

Dillsburg Excavating & Septic, Inc. performs real estate septic inspections for your mortgage company after you’ve purchased a home, and the lender needs proof of inspection. The price of the real estate septic inspection does include the inspection itself as well as the paperwork.

Septic pumping is an additional fee.

Why Septic Maintenance is Important?

As the septic system is used, sludge accumulates in the bottom of the septic tank. As the sludge level increases, more solids escape into the absorption area. If sludge accumulates too long, no settling occurs before the sewage runs directly to the soil absorption area. To prevent this, the tank must be pumped.

Under ordinary use, the tank should be serviced for an average of 2-3 years for a family of 4 with a 1,000-gallon tank. If garbage disposal is in use, the tank should be serviced approximately once a year. The septic tank should be pumped out through the large manhole, not the baffle inspection ports.

Since grease clogs septic tanks, homeowners should avoid pouring fats or oils down the drain. To further extend the life of a system, insoluble materials, such as paper towels, tampons, coffee grounds, baby wipes, etc., should never be flushed down the toliet.

If you have any other questions, feel free to call. We also have a service where we will send you a reminder when it’s time for your tank to be cleaned if requested.
